March 4 to 6, 2025, train-the-trainers online workshop was held via the BigBlueButton virtual classroom software for 17 instructors from police administrations across Croatia. The instructors previously participated in pilot trainings on the use of force and the basics of tactical medicine within the Erasmus+ project Development of Joint Curriculum for First Responders on the Use of Force and First Aid Tactical Procedures (FIRST-TAC).
Train-the-trainers workshop was part of the dissemination activities of the FIRST-TAC project, which the Police Academy - The First Croatian Police Officer has been conducting since 2023 with its partners: the Police School in Slupsk, Poland, the Lithuanian Police School and the Agency for Education and Professional Training, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This train-the-trainers concept was designed for the participants of four pilot trainings implemented within the FIRST-TAC project. During the project, experts from partner institutions developed a new, joint training program for first responding police officers on tactics and techniques in use of force and providing first aid. Accordingly, the workshop had two main goals: to present the teaching methodology and strategies around which the FIRST-TAC training program on the use of force and the basics of tactical medicine is built, and to enable the development and improvement of the knowledge and skills necessary for the implementation of such a curriculum. The participants were therefore presented with the basic principles of learner-centred teaching, role-playing and demonstration as active learning methods, and guidelines for providing constructive feedback.
The workshop included a combination of theoretical and practical sessions, i.e. short presentations on key topics and teaching/learning methodology, and active sessions in which participants dealt with practical tasks. The evaluation of learning was based on the formative approach and did not include an exam at the end, but the trainers provided participants with detailed feedback for each task and activity.
Such workshops will also be held in other project partner institutions during March, in their national languages.
